My name is Beth Buster, owner at Paws Pet Care Pet Sitting & Dog Walking. I have always….ALWAYS had a passion and deep love for pets and their people.
Until 2013 I was pretty naive about homelessness, especially its existence here in our beautiful city of Louisville, KY. But homelessness DOES exist in Louisville and I have witnessed it first hand.
It is estimated that 3.5 million Americans are homeless. Between 5% to 10% of homeless people have pets that provide them companionship, protection and unconditional love. After observing a homeless man take food from his own mouth to feed his faithful companion right here in our city I decided to do something about it, so I created My Dog Eats First, Inc.
My Dog Eats First is a 501(c)(3) organization that serves the underserved and homeless with pets in the greater Louisville area. We believe in the healing power of pets and in the love and companionship that these pets bring to the underserved and homeless and we envision a world made better by the impacts we can have when we all do a little something good. Our mission is to provide pet food, supplies, and veterinary care for the pets of the underserved and homeless with respect and love.
We work hand-in-hand with other local, grassroots nonprofit organizations, volunteering in the community wherever we’re needed. Giving something back is an important value that we hold – and put into action every day.
We’re committed to contributing our energy and all the donations that we are given, and we hope that in doing so we help set an example for others to follow.
