Pets Are Family Too
If you’re apartment-hunting with a pet, it’s almost certain that you are considering a pet-friendly apartment community. Pet-friendly living is a great way to have access to pet-friendly amenities, community and more! Paws Pet Care Pet Sitting & Dog Walking understands that your pets are an important part of your family so we offer to serve ALL pet-friendly apartment communities in East Louisville Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Here are a list of things to consider if you are looking for pet-friendly apartments:
1. Understand Your Responsibilities As A Responsible Pet Owner In An Apartment
While most apartment pet-policies don’t deviate from each other too much, it’s still important to go over every term carefully and thoroughly. You’ll want to make sure your pet is flea and disease free and stays up to date on their vaccinations. Most apartment communities charge a pet deposit, fee, and a monthly maintenance fee. Some apartments might have additional costs associated with having a pet.
2. Work At Keeping Noise Like Barking To A Minimum
We understand that it’s really hard to control your pet’s level of noise, especially dogs. Fortunately we offer services like Quick Potty Breaks, Puppy Playtime, Private Dog Walking and Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner breaks to keep your pup’s boredom and separation anxiety to a minimum. We even offer specialized Cat Sitting, Bird & Small Mammal Services! One of the biggest challenges for pet-owners at apartments are the complaints from neighbors about the noise level. Let us help!
You can try to work on training your pup not to bark. If you’re at a loss as on how to train your dog not to bark as much, check out this useful post from the Human Society.
3. Potty Train Your Pets
It’s challenging to live in an apartment complex while potty training a puppy. A smaller space and perhaps stairs will make it difficult to get them outside as as much as they need. A puppy needs to have a potty break every hour for every 4 weeks old it is. So, if a puppy is 8 weeks old it should be going out to potty every 2 hours. The most important thing is to be consistent as you show them your preferred place for using the potty and use positive reinforcement every time they display the correct behavior.
4. Exercise, Exercise, EXERCISE
When you’re searching for the best pet-friendly apartment, make sure that you look at the options for outdoor recreation for your pet. Are walking trails available or close? Are there other amenities like dog parks? Does the floorplan you are considering offer enough space? Other than proper training, the best way to keep your pet happy, healthy and at a lower noise level is to give them plenty of exercise! Our Private Dog Walking services are the pawfect solution.
